The Colorado Energy Office plans to launch a geothermal energy grant program later this year, no later than November 14th. The grant program has been authorized under HB22-1381 and is designed to support the use of zero-emission geothermal energy for electricity generation, heating and cooling in homes, businesses and communities.

Developers, building owners, local governments, utilities, contractors, communities, geothermal installers, college campuses, and other program-approved organizations are eligible for grants. Eligible projects include:

• New or retrofit installations of geothermal primary heating or cooling systems
• New construction or renovation of community geothermal systems
• geothermal power
• Design Research

Sources from the Bipartisan Initiative on Underground Thermal Energy say that Colorado and several western U.S. states are ramping up legislative efforts to develop geothermal resources. Earlier this year, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a new state regulatory approval framework to expand power generation capacity from geothermal resources.
